I found a great site that I wanted to share to whomever reads my blog. Check it out: http://participate.net/campaigns
I found it from climatecrisis.org, which everyone should check out as well.

Photography Camp
And so you thought my summer internship was over... but fear not, I arranged to teach five 5th and 6th graders the basics of photography in a 2 day class! The five kids were all boys (photo to follow later when I upload it) who were interested in learning about cameras, taking photos and playing games. So for the last 2 days, that's what I did! On Monday, I taught about aperture and shutter speed and the basics of the camera- parts and how to hold it and etc. Today, we went more in depth to aperture, motion, close-up photography, themes in photography and studio shoots. It was a tremendous amount of fun, super tiring and now I think my internship is officially done.... except that I have a bbq to go to tonight for the art association and an opening for Gerry Spence (his grandkids were in my class) on thursday! Yippee!! Then my summer can start..... wait, what?!?!

The Center for the Arts
By the way, this is the building I worked in.... in the wintertime at night... but close enough :)

Last few days of my internship
For the last few days, I have been organizing art fair things and doing last minute things as my internship ends today. Overall, I very much enjoyed this internship and if they have any openings next year, they have offered me a job (though i'm not sure yet what I want to do...). I do know that I will be working there in December to help out with an art show. I am now in the process of filling out the evaluation forms for scad.... very exciting stuff! I am here for a little less than 2 weeks that will be jam packed. Stacy's coming to visit for 5 days, i'm teaching a 2 day photo class to some kids next week, taking images of properties for a company out here and maybe trying to find some time to have a little bit of a summer!

Another looong art fair weekend...
Well after taking a bit of a hiatus for a few days to Oregon and the coast, I returned Thursday to help setup and work at the art fair all weekend! In the past 3 days, I worked 31 hours- yeah! This art fair I felt was much better than the last one, however the weather didn't cooperate very well. It rained, thunderstormed, hailed, blew down tents for all three days. I had more of an opportunity this fair to mingle with artists, talk about their work, learn some ins and outs of doing art fairs and hand out a few business cards- oh and also buy some stuff! There was some great photography that I fell in love with and hope to maybe incorporate some of it into my work... this photographer is also going to be in an art fair in Atlanta in a few weeks and he wants me to come and hang out for a bit and share some work- cool!
Anyways, I have 3 more days left of my internship- kind of sad, but they definitely want me to come back next summer to help out if I want or for good, so we'll see :)

Art Fair #2
For the last 2 days, I have begun to prepare for the second art fair this summer. The art fair is not until next weekend, but we are getting a head start on preparing. So yesterday, I drove around town hanging up posters and handing out flyers. Today I stuffed artist's packets, attended an "interesting" marketing meeting, answered a few phone calls, printed out some new signs and yep, there's probably more....

Office Manager
On Friday, I was the office manager for the day and also the docent for the galleries. It was actually nice just to sit at a desk and learn how to sign people up for classes, talk with guests and be the face of the art association! I also had a nice surprise of flowers that were delivered for me for my birthday (which was Saturday!).
This doesn't really relate to my internship, but last night we went to see a Horse Whisperer and it was soo cool- it's called Cowboy Church! We saw a horse that never wanted to be caught become tame and completely follow the guy (his name is Grant, i think) in everything that he was saying- pretty frigging neat!! :)

Step-by-step guide to Hanging a Show

To begin the process of hanging a photography show, make sure you have walls that are capable of hanging photos. Also, bring in the supplies you are going to need for the project (in this case, the cart in the lower left) and of course a trash can!

Remove the nails and hanging materials used from the previous show and fill in the holes with some puddy.

Then prepare the correct paint color and find a nice small roller brush to paint over the holes and the sticky stuff from the labels from the previous show!

Paint! Almost a dry paint, yet enough to cover.

Let dry and Voila!! Brand new walls!

When finished painting, clean your materials in a sink that can compensate for paint going down the drain.

Then prepare the images that you will be hanging on the walls- i.e. bring them into the gallery space and unwrap them.

Place them throughout the gallery and then meticulously arrange them in a suitable viewing order that is easy on the eyes.

Hang the show (meaning measure every little detail and spec to be perfectly at eye level- 59 inches plus whatever the distance from the top of the frame is to the wire). This will take the longest out of any of the steps.

When finished hanging the show, clean and dust the frames.

Put up the title of the show, level and without screwing up the vinyl lettering.

Adjust the lighting to highlight the pieces.

And Voila! a perfectly hung show!! :)
Time frame for all of these steps: about 8 hours!

Hanging a show
Today I spent 7 1/2 hours hanging a photography show in the gallery! It is Gerry Spence's work and its pretty cool. I documented all of the steps as well and as soon as I import the images, I will post them on here. For now, check out Gerry Spence (Yes, that name does sound familiar from a famous trial years back and also he's a pretty famous lawyer).
