The Real Project 2 Idea

So for our tools, shiny object project, we have decided to go with a melange of tools interspersed with sand (bread crumbs) to make an abstract head or bird- we haven't decided which abstract feature to use yet, but it will be one of those. I have found some great examples that I hope we can emulate from for this project:

Project 2

I have deemed this project: "A Hard Knock Away From The Ordinary"

My team and I have not finalized our plans yet for our project 2 shoot, but my ideas are to have some wrenches and screwdrivers lounging on beach chairs surrounded by sand and rocks (stuffing!) with some nuts and bolts around as well. Though my idea just came to me, I realized that this idea is very similar to the corona beer ads with their beer lounging around the beach. So I did a little research and found the following images that I think will help with our shoot.

Project 1 Photo Shoot

For this shoot, we used 8 different lighting techniques with a hot light to do a white on white themed photograph. What follows are the apertures and shutter speeds (bracketed) for the 8 different light setups and the contact sheet with all the images.
1) Hard Front Light 1/25 f 9.0; 1/15 f 11; 1/40 f 7.1

2)Hard Back Light 1/10 f 7.1; 1/5 f 9.0; 1/13 f 5.0

3)Hard Side Light 1/8 f 8.0; 1/13 f 6.3; 1/4 f 11

4)Hard Top Light 1/15 f 8.0; 1/8 f 11; 1/30 f 5.6

5) Diffused Front Light 1/10 f 5.6; 1/8 f 7.1; 1/40 f 4

6) Diffused Back Light 1/16 f 5.6; 1/10 f 8.0; 1/30 f 4.5

7) Diffused Side Light 1/5 f 6.3; 1/3 f 8.0; 1/10 f 4.0

8) Diffused Top Light 1/10 f 8.0; 1/6 f 11; 1/25 f 5.6

And here are two of the final shots incorporating our day at the tropical park theme:

Studio Examples

Here are some shots that I like that I found while searching for some studio ideas:

Project 1

For Project 1, my group and I are doing a white park theme with 2 parents, 2 children, a dog, some confetti grass, and a white background. Today we spray painted all of the materials and prepared for the shoot on Wednesday. There are 8 different lighting situations for this project, so we will set up the stage and shoot them!

In class today we went over lighting techniques and talked about different forms of light and a bit of physics! Also, we had a mock shoot of what we will be doing on Wednesday.

Here are some examples of images that remind me of hopefully what our scene will resemble except in the studio setting:

Project 1 and 2 Ideas:

Project 1 preliminary ideas:
For this project everything needs to be white- painted white. I have the idea of creating a small street scene where everything is white. The light posts, the benches, the tiny people walking down the street and the background will be white with a white moon. The other idea I had was to use objects- 3d globes, rectangles, squares, and triangles and place them in an order so that the shadows create different whites.

Project 2 ideas:
For this project, we need to use hardware tools and create a scene. My idea is to make the hardware tools humanized- so I plan on having a beach scene, where the tools, such as a screwdriver and a wrench are sunbathing on beach chairs, with mini umbrellas, sipping on drinks on a beach with sand and water. There is a palm tree growing nails in the background, some screws along the beach and etc. If that idea doesn't work, I can always use the tools in a different environment such as a dining room or living room setting.

Studio Craft

For the next 10 weeks, this blog will be used as my journal for my Studio Craft class. Today was our first class/meeting in the frigid studio section of the 5th floor, where we all seem to live and I was not exactly prepared for the temperatures.... We discussed the syllabus and the assignments and I'm looking forward to doing the projects- they should be really nice! I already have some ideas for the second project with the hardware tools, so now I have to come up with some ideas for the first project, where everything has to be white. Stay tuned for more details....
